Job Summary: Directs or participates in planning, designing, or reviewing plans for design and manufacture of structures requiring stress analysis: Designs structure to meet estimated load requirements, computing size, shape, strength, and type of structural members, or performs structural analysis of mechanisms and structures.

Summary of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership as a responsible structural analyst engineer on aviation programs
  • Coordinate the implementation of structural solutions based on analysis results with the engineering team
  • Develop test procedures and hardware, coordinate with test staff specifying test methods, instrumentation requirements, interpret test results, update structural model based on test results, make design recommendations and document results
  • Perform structural analysis using Finite Element Analysis for stresses and strains when the structure is subjected to linear, non-linear, and thermal or vibration inputs
  • Prepare test reports, analysis reports, proposal technical sections and giving presentations to staff and customers summarizing structural analysis results
  • Accomplish tasks by developing and/or modifying structural models using general-purpose finite element modeling software for predicting component and system level mechanical behavior
  • Establish structural design criteria and code requirements
  • Establish or review proposed structural systems
  • Determine and maintain project scope
  • Perform or direct structural analysis, design, and detailing of project according to established requirements
  • Ensure inter-disciplinary coordination and quality control of documents
  • Other activities as may be directed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of engineering fundamentals, mathematics, physics & material properties
  • Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Tools including ANSYS and/or NASTRAN
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, CATIA V5 and Microsoft office software
  • Knowledge of design/drafting/ CAD
  • Thorough understanding of GD&T
  • Team Player and Leadership abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written skills

Credentials and Experience

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering required
  • Must have 6-9 plus years of demonstrated experience in mechanical design & drafting
  • Experience with structural finite element analysis (FEA) tools including ANSYS and/or NASTRAN required
  • Experience in R&D projects, primarily focused on structures, UAV experience desired
  • Will work on government contracts
  • Must be a US Citizen

Special Requirements (established by supervisor)

  • Willing to work overtime in support of team objectives as requested by VP of Engineering
